What did you expect when you joined the placement program?

• Wasn’t sure what I was expecting. It was my first time working somewhere. I will be meeting new people and clients.

What did you do in program?

• Research on programs
• Admin
• Attended social activities
• Went with clients on bus picking them up and dropping them home
• Client surveys
• Client Intake
• Working with a local council on a shared project

Did you enjoy the experience?

• The research was harder and was challenging to be relevant
• Admin was great
• When talking with clients, my time flew past when listening to them but was also challenging understanding what clients meant in their responses
• Going on outings was enjoyable and talking with the clients

What was the main thing you got out of the experience?

• More confident

What did you learn that you did not expect?

• Learn how do deal with a client’s pet, that wanted to check me out before we could start at the client; so I go over a phobia
• When a client was stressed and emotional at an event, dealing with that is something I will learn more, as it will be common in this industry

What are you hoping to do with your career?

• I want to get into community services
• Because, I have been helping my community and I can do more and in my community don’t speak language, and they need people like me who can speak their language, and I can help people with their rights, the services available and getting out of crisis situations. I hope I can help.
