South East Volunteers Inc. (‘SEV’) is committed to protecting your privacy.

SEV is bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and other legislation that regulates how we collect, store, provide access to, use and disclose personal information.

Under the Privacy Act, you are entitled to the following:

  • being told what kind of information we are collecting and how we collect it
  • being told why your personal information is being collected
  • your personal information can only be collected for a lawful purpose
  • finding out what information we hold about you and have it corrected if it is incorrect, out of date or incomplete.
  • advising that your personal information must be stored securely and protected from interference or misuse.

1. Information We Collect

SEV will only collect your personal information if it directly related to, or reasonably necessary for, one or more of our functions or activities.

The information collected may include your:

  • name
  • email address
  • phone number
  • other details you provide when using our website or services.

SEV will only collect your information through lawful and fair means.

SEV may also obtain your information through government agencies and third parties, which will be handled in the same manner as if you provided it.

SEV may also collect personal information using cookies. Our Website’s Cookies are through Google Analytics and subject to Google’s Privacy Policy. We may also collect personal information through Microsoft Forms in order to perform our service.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information will only be used for SEV to perform its functions and in accordance with the Privacy Act.

We may use your information if:

  • it’s authorized or required by law
  • you’ve consented to the use
  • the use meets one of the other exceptions in the Australian Privacy Principles.

You will be advised of the intended use of information at the time of its collection. Your information may be used as authorized by law.

3. Sharing Your Information

Your information will only be used in order to deliver our services, and may be used by, or shared with, SEV staff and volunteers or third-party vendors whose duties require them to use it in order for us to deliver our service.

Your information won’t be disclosed to any other person, body or agency unless:

  • you give us permission
  • it’s authorized or required by law
  • it meets one of the other exceptions in the Australian Privacy Principles.

4. Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, would like access to the personal information that we hold about you, or would like to correct your personal information, you may contact us. We will endeavor to respond to your concern within 5 working days.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your privacy concern, you may contact the Office of Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) directly. OAIC is independent and can investigate privacy complaints.

5. Your Privacy Rights

You have rights with respect to your personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic). You have the right to ensure your data is correct and up to date at all times. To update your data, please contact us.
